OAKVILLE POWER PLANT INFORMATION NIGHT

When: Wednesday February 24th, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm.

Where: River Oaks Community Church - 2435 Munns Avenue, Oakville

Citizens for Clean Air (C4CA) Invites You to An Oakville Power Plant Information Night.

Learn about the 900MW natural gas-fired power plant that the Ontario Government proposes building in Oakville.

Key Issues About the Plant Include:
The plant’s location close to homes and schools: Disregard was shown for the community; 16 schools and over 11,000 homes would be within 3km. of the plant.
The increased pollution it will cause in the over-polluted Oakville-Clarkson Airshed: Ontario’s own studies indicate that the Oakville-Clarkson Airshed is one of the most polluted in Ontario. 80 people per year die prematurely in Oakville due to FPM (Fine Particulate Matter).
The lack of an Individual Environmental Assessment for the plant: Instead of a full, independent, Environmental Assessment including health and safety, TransCanada Energy, the plant’s builder, was itself allowed to perform an Environmental Review.
The plant’s flawed Site Selection Criteria: Convenient access to infrastructure was given priority over the health and safety of residents.
The disregard for children’s health: Children suffer disproportionately from the types of emissions, including FPM2.5, emitted by the plant and Oakville’s Fine Particulate Matter By-Law classifies the proposed power plant as a major emitter.
The decrease in the demand for power: Data from Ontario’s own Independent Electricity System Operator shows SwGTA power demand falling!
The cost to the Ontario Gov’t. of the plant: A 20yr. guarantee is involved.
C4CA (Citizens For Clean Air) is a broad coalition of concerned citizens from Oakville and Mississauga who are very concerned about the effects of the proposed gas-fired power plant on nearby homes and schools in the Oakville-Clarkson Airshed. C4CA is a non-profit organization. Please visit Stop The Power Plant Website
